Are you a passionate Catholic musician called to lead God's people in worship? We are seeking a dedicated Pastorate Director of Music Ministry to serve our vibrant combined parishes in the beautiful, welcoming community of Mitchell, SD.
Position Overview Full-time (30–40 hours/week), flexible hourly, benefit-eligible role. Serve as the primary musician and choir director for Holy Family. Lead the Holy Spirit parish team of accompanists and cantors. Plan the liturgical music and schedule for both parishes.
Key Responsibilities Provide sacred music for weekend Masses (minimum 4 per weekend: Saturday 5:00 PM at Holy Family; Sunday 8:30 AM & 10:30 AM at Holy Family; Sunday 5:00 PM at Holy Spirit), Holy Days of Obligation, weddings, funerals, and other liturgies Play organ/piano (and sing when needed) while leading the congregation in joyful praise Direct choirs for both parishes: recruit, train, and rehearse volunteers (aiming to grow to 5+ weekly singers soon, and 10+ by year-end) Schedule cantors and rotating accompanists Plan music in full compliance with Catholic liturgical documents (e.g., General Instruction of the Roman Missal) and copyright laws Coordinate music selections for special services (weddings/funerals); provide or arrange accompaniment (stipend paid separately if you play) Foster formation and involvement among volunteers, choir members, and the congregation
Qualifications We Seek Deep commitment to the Catholic faith: live and witness in accordance with Church teachings and the Catechism Proficiency in piano/organ Ability to play and sing publicly; strong directing and leadership skills Bachelor's degree in Music or related field preferred Solid knowledge of Catholic liturgy and relevant Church documents Self-motivated team player who can multitask, adapt, and build volunteer participation
