Want to be a part of building a beautiful music program? Fr. Michael Dion (ordained 2016, studied at the PNAC in Rome, Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Theresa Parishes in Federal Way, WA) and his parochial vicar Fr. John Paul Tomassi (ordained 2023) are looking for an energetic musician and leader who can help them foster a cohesive liturgical identity in their parishes.
Copied below from the job posting is some background information on the parishes. In addition to this, the following is noteworthy:
-The priests of the parish family (and many of the parishioners) have a deep love for reverent liturgy and a great interest in exploring the rich liturgical tradition of the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, as well as the Western hymnody tradition.
-A particular priority in the coming years will be to give more prominence to proper antiphons, especially in vernacular chant, and to reverent settings of the Ordinary of the Mass.
-Both churches have organs that are well-suited to their respective buildings; the larger of the two (at St. Vincent - see info) is a large, versatile hybrid instrument with an array of colors to support a variety of organ literature and congregational singing well. (See more info for St. Theresa Organ)
-A couple examples of steps that have already been taken in the direction of fostering the desired liturgical formation include a well-attended and well-received Rorate Caeli Mass (entrance sample video; photos), as well as a progressive solemnity structure implemented for music at daily Masses.
-There are two particularly vibrant choirs in the parish family: the Pacific Island choir, which has demonstrated the capacity to master complex choral pieces; and a children’s Spanish choir, which enthusiastically learned to chant the Lord’s Prayer according to the tone in the Misal Romano.
PARISH FAMILY DETAILS (Copied from job posting)
Parish Family 31 is made up of two parishes, Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Theresa, in suburban Federal Way – between Seattle and Tacoma, Washinton. October Mass attendance counts report around 1600 attendees at the four English weekend Masses at St. Vincent, and around 1400 at five (two Spanish, three English) weekend Masses at St. Theresa. The school at St. Vincent, serving the parish family, currently has 268 students enrolled; the school has a concert choir that occasionally sings for Masses.
Masses at St. Vincent regularly feature a Pacific Island choir, a contemporary band, and a more standard choir; Masses at St. Theresa regularly feature a couple standard choirs, a Spanish adult band, and a Spanish children’s choir. Some special groups that have formed for occasional Masses are a Filipino choir, a women’s choir, and a bilingual young adult band.
Given such a variety of cultural and musical expression across our liturgies, it is our desire to cultivate a more cohesive liturgical identity, especially by guiding the parish family towards a deeper appreciation of our common liturgical heritage.
