St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Birmingham, Alabama, is opening the position of Associate Director of Music.

Under the Director of the Director of Music and Organist, the full-time Associate Director of Music is
primarily responsible for the overall development and direction of a comprehensive graded music
program for both children and youth and as support to the comprehensive parish sacred music program.

The graded program includes the development of a rudimentary music curriculum for the Little Lions
(Mom’s Day out Program) as well as a graded choral program that will serve both as an educational
opportunity and liturgical contribution to the life of the parish from our elementary and youth students.
The formal structure of the ensembles and performance goals are flexible and will be determined by the
ADOM in conjunction with the Director of Music.

The ideal candidate will also serve as an integral part
of the music staff and liturgical life of a vibrant parish.

Essential Functions:
• Director all things related to comprehensive Children’s and Youth Music program, inclusive of
Little Lions Program, and Children (K-5th Grade) and Youth 6th
-12)
• Serve as staff cantor/choir/schola member
• Serve as assistant organist for the parish
• As assigned, serve as cantor or organist for weddings/funerals
• Performs other administrative duties as assigned by Director of Music
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• High School diploma; additional qualifications, a plus.
• Degree (or pursuing) in Music Education/Sacred Music or another related field preferred or
commensurate experience.
• Excellent Keyboard Skills (Organ/piano)
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Proven experience as parish musician or relevant position.
• Good organizational, multi-tasking abilities and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a positive, focused manner and
remain composed under stress.
