MUSIC DIRECTOR

Spring Creek United Church of Christ is a progressive, open and affirming congregation, centered in Christ. We are accepting applications for Music Director. We are looking for an individual to guide and grow our current music ministry which includes coordinating and playing for worship services, directing the handbell choir, and (optional) directing the vocal choir. The Music Director will possess strong skills in piano and (optional) organ and be able to promote and expand the existing music program.

Purpose of the position: To lead the Church in the ministry of Music.

Position includes these expectations:

• In cooperation with the Pastor and the Worship Ministry, lead the development and implementation of music program for SCUCC that shall be primarily for, but not limited to, worship.

• Provide musical accompaniment for Sunday worship and other services of the church. This shall include making provisions for accompaniment in the Music Director’s absence and additional accompaniment for musical performances which require more than can be provided by the music director alone.

• Prepare, rehearse, and conduct the choir(s) of the church for worship, as well as for other programs that may be included in the music program defined by the Pastor or the Worship Ministry. Vocal choir is optional. Handbell choir direction is expected with professional development provided if needed.

• Recruit members and friends of the church for participation in the ministry of music.

• Maintain the music library with the assistance of church members and friends and maintain the musical instruments in cooperation with contracted professionals.

• Purchase new music literature and equipment as needed and as provided for in the annual operating budget of the Church or by designated gifts to the church.

• When asked to provide musical accompaniment for weddings or funerals, the Music Director, or the replacement musician, shall be provided with additional compensation commensurate with prevailing practices in the community, to be paid by the families involved.

Job type: Part-time

Salary: Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
