St. John Chrysostom, a vibrant Roman Catholic parish in the Bronx, is seeking a dynamic director of music to develop and maintain a program of sacred music that will support and enable the people of the parish to encounter more deeply the sacred mysteries of the liturgy. The applicant must possess: organ skills, the ability to develop and sustain a youth choir, the ability to sing in English and Spanish, and organizational skills that will assist in their direction of the parish music program. The applicant should also possess knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and must be capable of working collaboratively with the pastor, clergy and, staff.
Job requirements: • Provide music for 5 weekend Masses (2 English, 3 Spanish) as well as all feasts and solemnities. • Direct and develop the youth choir • Provide music for holy day liturgies. • Provide music for all sacramental celebrations. • Provide music for school Masses. • Plan weekly music to facilitate congregational participation at Mass. • Play weddings and funerals. This provides additional income to the base salary. Salary is commensurate with experience. All weddings and funerals are extra income and the parish averages 25 funerals and 5-10 weddings each year.
