Saint Catherine Labouré Catholic Church in Jefferson, Georgia is seeking a new part-time organist and director of sacred music for English-language liturgies. It is a rapidly growing parish with many new young families, located about 60 miles northeast of Atlanta. The music director works closely with the pastor, as well as other musicians, to implement a program of sacred music in accordance with Catholic tradition, and reports directly to the pastor. The ideal candidate must be able to:
• Serve as organist for all English-language Sunday (currently 10 a.m.) and anticipated (Saturday 4 p.m.) Masses, as well as Holy Days of Obligation, Triduum, Confirmation and First Communion. • Program music and schedule cantors/organists for all of the above Masses. • Be proficient in the theology of the liturgy, preferences and guidelines of the Church with regards to sacred music, and the tradition of Catholic sacred music, including hymnody and plainchant. • Be a clear and effective, yet respectfulwho appreciates the need to work with volunteers. • Have experience in Catholic sacred music, i.e. as an organist, music director, cantor or student.
Additionally, the ideal candidate should:
• Cantor for any of the above Masses as needed. • Serve as organist and/or cantor for weddings and funerals. • Have a repertoire of instrumental organ music to use as preludes/postludes and communions, etc..
