St. Therese Carmelite Catholic School has an opening for a part time music teacher of grades 5-8. The classes are divided into girls and boys, 4 Classes in total, Tuesdays from 10:00 to 3:00. The fifth class is as assistant to the Schola Director.
The compensation is $50-$75 an hour depending upon experience.
St. Therese Carmelite School uses a classical education curriculum. It is located in Alhambra, CA and is the parish school of St. Therese Church. (1106 E. Alhambra Road Alhambra CA 91801)
The applicant should be able to:
1. Model good vocal skills (should have vocal training and know how to develop young voices to sing in a natural, unforced manner)
2. Manage and engage a classroom effectively.
3. Teach basic theory, e.g. counting, note values , time signatures, solfège and basic sight reading.
4. Incorporate some music history and famous composers within the context of the music being taught.
5. Teach the Catholic standard hymns and Gregorian chants to each class
6. Prepare the students for weekly school Masses.
7. Organize the Christmas Program and Spring Concert. ( The Christmas program is in the form of Lessons and Carols, and the Spring program tends toward folk songs, classic musical theater and age appropriate songs.)
8. Develop and deliver a curriculum that fulfills the Classical education ethos.
9. Additional responsibilities will be assigned by the principal.

Educational background: BA or higher in music or Music Education.(BM preferred)
Preferred-previous work as a music teacher in a classroom
