Cantate Domino Chant Workshop with Br. Bachmann, Nashville TN, Sept. 26–28 2025 (to be rescheduled)

It’s now time for me to start passing on what has been handed on to me. I have been considering such an event for several years, and now on this feast of the translation of the relics of Saint Benedict, I can now invite those who would wish to learn about chant and to immerse themselves further in the official music of the church’s liturgy to Nashville.

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Nashville, Tennessee is hosting “Cantate Domino”: learn to sing and pray the music of the Roman Catholic Church, which gives life to the texts of her sacred liturgy.

The event takes place the weekend of September 26 – 28, 2025. It will include instruction for the musical novice, or the musically talented new to chant, and above all prayer as we will sing four hours of the Divine Office (Friday Compline, Saturday Terce and None, and Sunday Vespers). The parish would like to make this a regular feature of our calendar, as we continue to celebrate the restoration of the parish church and its reopening on Laetare Sunday earlier this year.

The lessons will be taught by br. Mark Bachmann, o.s.b., choirmaster of the abbey of Our Lady of Clear Creek, in a condensed form based upon the Laus in ecclesia course.

Br. Bachmann will also be joining us for high Mass at 10 AM on Sunday the 28th as well as I Vespers of the Dedication of Saint Michael that evening and high Mass of the feast on Monday the 29th. (Technically, the workshop ends on Sunday, but we are grateful to the abbot of Clear Creek who gave permission for Br. Bachmann to stay for the feast.)

All are welcome at the Divine Office and at Mass, but due to limited space in the loft (and this being our first year, with only our resident priest to sing the usual Masses on Sunday and Monday) we have a few places for male guests to sing the propers.

Registration is open until September 10, and the form can be found HERE.

If you have any questions, please contact me. If you are able to come and would like to work on your chironomy, let me know. I have instructions to give you in that case.

Please also feel free to pass this along. I’d appreciate it. (I promise that the flyer is attached, but it’s not showing as a preview on the iPad version of Safari with the desktop version of the site up.)

The registration link doesn't seem to be working. Can you share it another way?

I wish you all great success with this! I'm my experience, when hosting events like this, Catholic musicians are hungry to learn what has been denied to them, and they show up.
Make sure you do a total publicity blitz: diocesan publicy and social media, email all musicians in every parish, etc etc.

Just to update this with new information from Matthew: unfortunately, the rescheduled dates did not work out either, so it's back to the drawing board to work out a new date for the workshop.
