The feast of the parents of the B.V.M. is arriving, and I have a question.
The introit found in the Graduale Romanum for the feast is Sapientia Sanctorum.
The introit found in the Graduale Simplex for the Common of Saints is Iustus ut Palma.
I was wondering whether it is allowed (using a strict interpretation of the rubrics), to chant the simple version of the Sapientia Sanctorum found in the Graduale Simplex, under the Common of Martyrs.
You can sing basically anything that you want. It’s not a matter of strict interpretation or not. Since it’s in the GS, and it’s a bit of an odd feast (the Roman rite only recently combined the two, whereas the monastic version has been combined for a while, and the two are paired sensibly, except that we pair very few male and female saints otherwise), then singing the other chant is fine.
