For my HYMN OF THE MONTH, I have chosen a hymn that is a translation of the Latin Ad Cor Jesu (To the Heart of Jesus) by Monsignor Hugh Thomas Henry, Litt.D., which was published in 1912. The music was composed by Nicola Montani, an accomplished musician, composer, and publisher. The hymn is a testament that devotional hymns which have long been forgotten can once again find their place our Catholic liturgy. Please take a moment to read about this beautiful hymn to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I recently read on The Canterbury Dictionary of Hymnology, "Only a slight percentage of hymns written find sustained use for congregations." It's always been that way. And it is true of Ad Cor Jesu. It does not take a Latin scholar to know that the Latin text is doggerel. And the English is not much better. This hymn died decades ago. Nothing is to be gained by trying to resurrect it. Requiescat in pace.
