Summer is slower for many of us, and it's often the only time I, for one, have the time and brain space for composing/arranging. I'm looking for texts that could use a choral setting, scriptural or otherwise. I'm searching for ideas for my English Motets site, but in addition, I haven't written a choral work in a couple years...*what texts, in your opinion, have been under-utilized or overlooked?
Motets using the office antiphons from the Breviary. If in, English you could consider using the beautiful office antiphon translations from the Anglican Breviary.
English Translations of texts from the Common of Virgins would be so appreciated. Can be applied to a whole range of things, Blessed Virgin Mary, Virgin Saints, Consecration of Virgins, Profession of Female Religious, etc.... There is almost nothing
This might seem like an odd choice, but I've always found the private prayer said during the purification of the vessels particularly beautiful, and the English translation is, imho, as if not more beautiful than the Latin: "“What has passed our lips as food, O Lord, may we possess in purity of heart, that what has been given to us in time may be our healing for eternity (Quod ore sumpsimus, Domine, pura mente capiamus: et de múnere temporáli fiat nobis remédium sempitérnum).” It strikes me as a text that would be very apt during/after communion.
