Found on Hymnary. Any other suggestions besides the standard Oremus pro Pontifice chant? I would also love to find the score for “Domine salvum fac Pontificem” by Aldega.

Might you already have pen to paper?!?
Is there a way we can adapt your Pope Francis hymn to our new Pope Leo XIV?

There are a couple of hymns I know of with three different melodies. "Hear, then our Prayer for the Church and the Pope" sometimes this hymn is captioned "O Lord of Host" or "For the Church and the Pope." Two of the melodies can be found in The American Catholic Hymnal" from 1913 and 1921. The other melody can be found in a collection of New Hymns By the Sisters of Notre Dame and you can listen to a recording on The Devotional Hymns Project website.

There is also, another from The American Catholic Hymnal, 1913 "Long Live the Pope" which can be found in the St. Gregory Hymnal and St. Basil's. You can listen to this on the same website.

    Thanks, Don9of11!

We're doing a Mass of Thanksgiving tomorrow at noon to pray for Pope Leo, so I have engraved "Long Live the Pope" anew and put it in two keys. I removed a little of the extra movement in the accompaniment. Wish I had seen "O Lord of Hosts" sooner -- I like both those tunes better than the Ganss. :) I even considered putting it to FOREST GREEN.

Here's Oremus Pro Pontifice from the American College in Rome--how appropriate!

"O Lord of Hosts" (Sisters of Notre Dame melody) is one of my favorite hymns. I learned it in sixth grade when these types of hymns were commonly taught to Catholic school children.

For what it's worth, the fourth stanza of "O Holy Name" has a fill-in-the-blank spot for the reigning pontiff.

Here is the arrangment from New Hymns by Sisters of Notre Dame circa 1892. It has the same words just a different melody which I think is quite nice.

There are two sets of revised lyrics for "Full in the panting heart of Rome". One was written for Pope Benedict's visit to the UK, the other by +Dennis Hurley. To be honest, I before the more theological passages to the flowery ultramontanism of the original.....

The verses are 8.8.8.8, so you can also omit the refrain and sing to some LM tune.

You can't omit this verse, from the original by Cardinal Wiseman (1802-1865),

For like the sparks of unseen fire,
That speak along the magic wire,
From home to home, from heart to heart,
These words of countless children dart.

Last Saturday Pope Leo visited the Augustinian Shrine of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Genazzano, a short distance from Rome. Being an Augustinian, he obviously has devotion to her under this title. There is a well-known hymn to OLGC, composed by Eleanor Donnelly of Philadelphia: O Virgin Mother, Lady of Good Counsel. There are several melodies for this hymn but the attached, by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, is probably the most popular. The hymn is still used in some Augustinian parishes in the United States. Perhaps the singing of this hymn would honor both Our Lady and Pope Leo.

The Lord Works Marvels for Us All
Hymn for the life and ministry of Pope Leo XIV

The Lord works marvels for us all!
His words and deeds our hearts recall
And come to know His saving ways
    In thankfulness and quiet praise.

The world, in need of Jesus Christ,
Who for our sake was sacrificed,
Awaits the word we have been taught:
The news of what His blood has bought.

Then let us pray in joy and hope
    For Leo, universal Pope,
That God will give him grace to bear
The cross of all the Churches’ care.

    O Beauty, ancient, ever new,
Make him a light that leads to You.
    Let Peter’s message sound abroad:
Christ Jesus is the Son of God.

And Mary, too, our hearts implore,
By the Incrnate God she bore,
Who saved her as she came to be,
    To guide Pope Leo’s ministry.

O God the Father, Spirit, Son,
In Whom alone we live as one,
Bring us, bring all, to share Your peace,
And let Your grace and truth increase.

Tune: EISENACH or any suitable LM hymn tune
