Orchestra and chant?
  • Is anyone aware of an orchestral accompaniment for Missa de angelis? The only one I can find is the one by Domenico Bartolucci, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere. Ex. https://www.armelin.it/catalogo/missa-de-angelis-2/
    Any help would be appreciated.

Mass of the Transfiguration by Norman Gouin uses Gloria VIII. The choral verses are newly composed material. Lots of instrument parts.
  • Thanks, I thought of that one first, but I'm not a fan of his inserts and I would like something just for De angelis.

Do Duruflé's Messe cum Jubilo instead

Have you tried contacting the Bartolucci foundation?

FWIW, Bartolucci's arrangement also has choral interpolations like Gouin's, except they don't follow the traditional arrangement of alternation. Example video here.

EDIT: That recording might not have all the interpolations, so perhaps he does follow the traditional alternation.
  • GerardH, Thank you! I didn't know until I saw the video. There was no sample to view from the online pdf. It's not what I'm looking for either. Oh well.
I have the Duruflé programmed for another occasion. Thanks again.

I have had great success having string players read out of judiciously-chosen organ accompaniments books that are written strictly in four parts.

You could contact Adam Bartlett via Source and Summit and ask what he uses for the SEEK or FOCUS conferences.

I've heard Adam Bartlett is a huge champion of orchestral accompaniment for Gregorian chant.
