Is there a public domain English translation of the hymn "Mit Freuden zart zu dieser Fahrt" by Georg Vetter? It was printed in 1566 in German, so it seems like there should be several translations, especially since the tune is well known.
[corrected] A nice feature of the Franzemann (stanzas 1, 2, 13 with alterations by Carver) & Carver (remaining stanzas) translation is that it preserves the acrostic (first letter of each of the 13 stanzas) of the original German "MEDIATOR IESUS", as well as the internal rhymes of the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th lines of each stanza. The translation itself is sensitive and well thought out.
While the meter is most often written out 8.7.8.7.8.8.7, it is actually 4.4.7.4.4.7.4.4.4.4.7 (iambic). To my ear, the rhymes are delightful. Percy Dearmer wrote in this meter with the rhymes (although the resultant texts date from his "free thought" years), and there is another Lutheran, very Lutheran, hymn in this meter.
