I was hunting around for ancient books of gospels and found one from the O.P. from 1567, right between Trent and Quo primum. Anyway, it has the gospel pericopes set to chant for Matins for Christmas and Epiphany (and also the Exsultet) in the back. I've never seen or heard this obviously quite solemn tone for the introductory dialog or the gospel before. Take a look.
