I had every intention of publishing my HYMN OF THE MONTH at the beginning of January, however my brother Jim Howe died in the early morning hours on January 1st, so everything was delayed. I also wasn’t going to release anything until February when by accident or coincident I hit the publish button.
Singing Latin hymns in the Ordinary Form of the Mass was a cherished tradition at St. Mary’s in Akron, Ohio for more than 30 years. This was our way to help preserve the devotional hymns that once were so popular. Beginning in the late 1970s and the years that followed, St. Mary’s continued to sing these beautiful hymns and incorporate them into New Liturgy. Please take a few moments to read about one Latin hymn in particular that was a favorite among the choir members and parishioners.
May your brother Jim rest in peace. Also, permit me to take this opportunity to thank you immensely for your Hymn of the Month series, especially for the current "O Cor Amoris" contribution to our understanding and appreciation of Catholic hymnody. You website and all that it contains is an invaluable asset.
