Southeastern NH - good parishes to visit?
  • I will be visiting some family in New Hampshire for the next week or so, and I was wondering if anyone on here had any suggestions as to parishes that might be worth visiting? The FSSP parish (St. Stanislaus) is 45 miles from where my family and I will be. I'd heard good things about Corpus Christi in Portsmouth, but looking at their livestream from midnight Mass it seemed somewhat disappointing (e.g. Dan Schutte Ordinary, lots of piano, "Do You Hear What I Hear" sung during Communion). At this point I'm not sure where to head on Sunday.

Check out the Cathedral of St. Joesph in Manchester. Great music being done there.

I've sent notes to a couple of musicians in NH asking if they have any recommendations, and will pass along anything that comes in. And I'll give a +1 for the Cathedral in Manchester.

Down in MA (too far for your needs, probably), there's good music at St. Adelaide's in Peabody; you can see recordings of their 10:30 English Mass on their Facebook page. I'm in the chant schola for the 12 noon TLM.

Also, St. Mary, Star of the Sea in Beverly is a parish with a fine organ and a good choral tradition, and I hope that's still there.
  • Thank you both for the recommendations! We ended up going to the Cathedral and it was lovely.

I am familiar with both St. Adelaide's and St. Mary Star of the Sea. I actually grew up in Massachusetts and the rest of my immediate family moved to New Hampshire a few weeks ago. I was confirmed at St. Adelaide's and was previously an intermittent choir member at St. Mary Star of the Sea. However, I know they have changed music directors since then and have not been back or heard anything as to the current state of their program.
