Every October/May, I introduce a Marian hymn as the recessional which "helps" the congregation to learn a new (and re-useable) hymn tune. So far in past years I have done:
Daily, Daily (OMNE DIE) Sing of Mary (PLEADING SAVIOR) O Queen of the holy rosary (ELLACOMBE) An obscure LM hymn (PUER NATUS)
looking for new tune that I can use next month - any suggestions?
Virgin Wholly Marvelous 77 77 D (FREU DICH SEHR) - attached Ye Who Own the Faith of Jesus 87 87 87 (KOMM, O KOMM, DU GEIST DES LEBENS) - attached O Glorious Maid Exalted Far 88 88 (REX GLORIOSE (Andernach) or IVYHATCH)

Check out my post HYMN OF THE MONTH on this forum. I have several Marian hymns that are appropriate to honor the Mother of God during the month of October.
A few additional Marian hymns you might like to consider and their tunes are: Holy Mary, Mother Mild (CHERUBIM) Holy Queen, We Bend Before Thee (HOLY FAMILY) I'll Sing a Hymn to Mary (WILLSBRIDGE) Look Down, O Mother Mary (VAUGHAN) Mother Mary, At Thine Altar (CONSECRATION) Hail, Thou Star of Ocean (OCEAN STAR--very interchanageable) Like the Dawning of the Morning (Selner) Mother of Christ (MOTHER OF CHRIST) O Purest of Creatures (PUREST MOTHER) Shall We Not Love Thee, Mother Dear? (BELGRAVE)
I have been doing English-text Marian hymns as preludes since mid-August and will continue through October. These are hymns that do not appear in our hymnal (The Traditional Roman Hymnal) and which would normally be used during processions et cetera. Since the TRH has such a paucity of hymns I have been using handouts for the past several years to teach very standard hymns. (We do not do a bulletin with the order of worship.)
At the request of some of our teens (many of whom are military dependents :-) I looked for a new-to-us Marian hymn with a martial air. (You may be familiar with the illuminated-manuscript-style graphic of Our Lady punching the Enemy; this is a favorite. The same young ladies and gentlemen and their little siblings will bring roses and wildflowers and paper flowers and coloring pages to the statues of Our Lady and the Sacred Heart in the tiny parish hall; it is quite endearing.)
I found "O Queen of peerless majesty" in the New Saint Basil Hymnal and we will be using it in October. There is an older version in the Laudate Hymnal that is even more martial in text but a bit convoluted and I prefer this one. I have told them that *they* must sing out since it is an entirely new hymn to us and the congregation tends to sing very softly on new things. (Did I mention that pre-teens, teens, and 20-somethings are the bulk of my schola?) YMMV
