2 additional section leaders (1 bass and 1 soprano) needed for Sunday afternoon Traditional Latin Mass at Mater Dolorosa Church in South San Francisco.
The ensemble is a paid octet that sings polyphonic works (motets and masses) and leads a group of additional volunteer singers in rendering Gregorian chant. A mandatory rehearsal (12:45-2:00) precedes the 2:00 p.m. Mass; Mass is usually 1.25–1.5 hours in length. Pay is $50/hour.
Section leaders should be available each Sunday, with flexibility to miss up to 5 Sundays per year. There are no liturgies during Holy Week except Easter Sunday, and only occasional non-Sunday liturgies in which section leaders would have first right of refusal but not be required to sing.
Qualified applicants will be experienced in choral singing, have excellent sight reading skills in modern notation, and a pleasant tone that blends well with others. It is preferable that they also are fluent in reading neumatic notation (square notes), but instruction in rehearsals is available for those who would be learning this skill.
Please email the ensemble's director, Dr. Jennifer Donelson-Nowicka at materdolorosachoir@gmail.com to schedule an audition.
