The Proto-Cathedral of St. Peter has an opening for an Organist & Parish Director of Sacred Music –
St. Peter Church and School is a vibrant historic parish of about 1,500 families located immediately adjacent to the Missouri State Capitol building in Jefferson City.
The current church building was completed in 1883 and seats approximately 575, with a lively acoustic of 3.5 seconds.
The primary function of the Organist and Director of Music is to assist the Pastor in all areas of music for the Parish and to work with the school teacher and music director (upon request).
As the Parish Director of Sacred Music you would oversee 1 choir that rehearses on Tuesday nights and sings for the weekly 10:00am Mass from after Labor Day until the Diocesan observation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (the Sunday after Corpus Christi). A low-obligation summer choir (no Tuesday rehearsals) has sung for the Month of July through the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
There is a great desire of the Parish and the Pastor to start a parish children’s choir that would sing regularly throughout the year. This vision is in its beginning stages and there is a great opportunity to flesh this out with the vision and desires of the Pastor.
As I am leaving on good terms, I am happy to give insight as to the nature of the position and the parish. Please let me know should you wish to talk about these things.
