The Parish of Saint Catherine of Siena in Trumbull, CT is seeking a new Director of Music and Organist to lead the parish music program beginning fall 2024. This is a full-time position with benefits. The music director will facilitate an important liturgical function by serving the parish as principal musician, organist, and choir director, according to the highest professional standards established by the profession. Candidates must have a high degree of proficiency in the use of the organ as attested to by formal credentials and a working knowledge of other instruments. The parish organ is a four-manual Walker digital, installed in 2017. A Master’s degree in music is preferred; a Bachelor’s degree in music is required. Additionally, applicants must be a practicing Catholic, have a working knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic Church’s liturgical tradition, current liturgical practices, and willingness to work collaboratively with the pastor’s liturgical vision for the parish. Candidates must be self-motivated, adaptable to changes in routine, have excellent written and oral communication skills, have knowledge using computer programs such as Word and Finale, the ability to create and edit weekly worship aids, and demonstrate significant choral experience with adults and children. Candidates must also have the ability to recruit, hire, and supervise staff singers (cantors and choristers) and instrumentals. In addition to the regular liturgical schedule (3 Masses per weekend), the music director will coordinate additional services for holy days, First Friday school Masses, sacramental celebrations, weddings, funerals and rehearsals, and will establish a children’s choir for the parish. Availability for Christmas, all of Holy Week and Easter Sunday is required. Salary range is $55,000-$65,000 plus major medical benefits.
