    Our Lady of Mount Carmel School (OLMC) and Lumen Gentium Academy (LGA) in Boonton, NJ, provide a classical liberal-arts PreK-12 education in the Catholic tradition.

    These rapidly growing schools are seeking candidates for full-time and part-time instruction for vocal and general music for grades K-12 for the 2024-25 academic year.

    Candidates must bring a love for their subject matter, dedication to their students, a commitment to academic excellence, and devotion to God and to the classroom. Strong candidates will have an entrepreneurial spirit, an enthusiasm for working in a close tutorial relationship with small classes of students, and eagerness to build an enduring institution of inestimable worth.

    At OLMC, we believe in the idea of having our students encounter beauty, for the love of music to lead to the full-flourishing of human and spiritual formation, and that every child sings. Singing and faith formation are prioritized for weekly participation as the Mass (Fridays during the school year.)

    The position(s) directly reports to the Director of Music.

    The high school music classes at LGA are an all-encompassing music appreciation course, consisting of history, theory, singing, and musicianship. Emphasis placed on preparing the student body for active singing during Morning Prayer and Weekly Mass.

    Middle School and Elementary classes at OLMC are a mixture of vocal/choral and general music. The liturgical music tradition of the Church, especially chant, is prioritized.

    Responsibilities

    Teach vocal and general music for a combination of high school, middle school and/or elementary (Grade(s) determined on interest and needs) (2-3 days a week part time; 4-5 days a weeks full time)

    Prepare school choral ensembles to sing at school events, including: Advent Lessons and Carols; Christmas and Spring Concerts; Open Houses; Graduation; Gala Night; Special Masses and additional Sacred Music Programming
    Assist Director of Music as vocalist and conductor at School Mass on Fridays during the academic year
    Assist Director of Music in leading sectionals and rehearsals for the Friday Mass Schola as needed
    Additional possibilities for cantoring, section leader, weddings/funerals, vocal performances at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish/school events
    Ability to take instruction from and work collaboratively with the Director of Music

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in music, music education, with a primary in voice.
    Vocalist primary, (Soprano/Alto Preferred), with ability to read and sing in chant and modern notation.
    Experience leading, teaching and singing Gregorian chant, hymnody, etc.
    Conducting of Choral Ensembles in educational and liturgical contexts
    Keyboard skills to lead choral rehearsals and general music K-12
    An appreciation for the role of the teacher as a model learner
    A love of learning, young people, and teaching
    Dedication to the teachings of the Catholic Church
