I'm seeing more and more ads for DM positions where being able to speak both English and Spanish is either a plus or a necessity.

I'm currently working for a parish with a strong Polish community, and so I'm making it a priority to learn the basics of the language (being able to say, "please" and "thank you", etc.).

How many colleagues out there are serving in a parish where a second language is needed? How many of you don't speak a second language, especially Spanish, and therefore have had to remove an otherwise potentially ideal job prospect from their short list? Most importantly, how many of you have decided to, or are in the process of, learning Spanish in order to expand the number of job possibilities available?

    If I might piggyback this:

Beyond learning to speak the language, what about training to sing it properly too?

At this point, I'm looking at the practicalities of speaking the language for administrative and social ("pastoral" eh-hem) reasons only.
