Is it true that the CMAA has made this statement about the Saint Jean de Brébeuf Hymnal ? In email advertising from Sophia Institute Press today, is found the following: “'Hands down the best Catholic hymnal ever published.' —The Church Music Association of America"

That quote was on NLM's blog in 2019

“…hands down, the best Catholic hymnal ever published. […] It is such a fantastic
hymnal that it deserves to be in the pews of every Catholic church.”

Ah. I wonder if anyone who represents the CMAA might object to this extrapolation.

  • Former professional writer here: I agree that the way it is presented is misleading, and they should credit it to Peter Kwasniewski, who is speaking for himself and not the CMAA.

    I agree

  • Thanks for letting us know. The CMAA doesn't endorse any particular hymnal, so it was an attribution error. Sophia was happy to correct it.

Now that it's sorted out, I wonder if the Administrator of this forum might remove the discussion as unnecessary.

For the record, here's the page where Peter made those nice comments about the Brebeuf hymnal:
    https://www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2019/06/what-catholic-hymn-should-be.html

That e-mail from Sophia wasn't the only place where publicity for the book has attributed Peter's comment as an endorsement by CMAA; the same thing appears in an Amazon listing for the book.

The blurb on Sophia's website formerly made the same mistake, but it's been corrected.
