A colleague is looking for a setting for her all-female choir to be used in a concert setting, possibly in alternatim with the chant; would anyone like to recommend a setting? I would think anything from 2-4 parts would be welcome.

Heath, this is extremely eerie; I just asked about this same thing a few days ago. I have a 2-part polyphonic setting of this piece, which is for alternatum with chant. Yurodivi just minutes ago sent me his improved PDF of the piece. You should ask him for a copy! It's marvelous.

    This looks wonderful, thank you.

Still open to other suggestions if people have them.

I have a recent recording by the Schola Magdalena in Toronto (look for this on CD Baby) that features a lovely Ave maris stella. Definitely not Solesmes with its nuanced rhythms. And they use a drone with good effect on some verses - an easy one moving simply between D and C. (Okay, re and do.) While this isn't elaborate polyphony, I found it quite elegant.
