Anyone know if any composers have written a choral response (Latin or English) to Ecce Lignum Crucis at the Adoration of the Cross on Good Friday? My search for “Venite Adoremus” mostly brings up Christmas Carol texts or the odd Matins text…..
Do you mean the quick "Come let us adore him" that is sung three times (in an ostensibly higher key each time) during the procession in with the Cross? In other words, you're looking for a harmonization of that brief response?
If that's not what you mean, there are a few settings of "Ecce lignum" at CPDL, including a splendid five-voice motet by Willaert and a four-voice motet by Senfl.
If you were just looking for that response, I suppose you could excerpt the "Venite adoremus" portion of either work: — mm. 16-25 of p. 3 of the Senfl (fairly brief; you might want to swap the tenor & bass lines, for tessitura reasons) — mm. 42-60 of pp. 5-7 of the Willaert (definitely not brief)
