I have been asked to make a list of Solo pieces suitable for a Soprano to sing in Advent...

It needs to be in Latin, and must not be secular.

    Any suggestions?

Et exultavit and Quia respexit from the Bach Magnificat come to mind.

There is a setting by Randall Thompson of the Magnificat for high voice and organ that I used to do but I do not know of it is still published etc. Also another unison setting of the Mag. that can be sung solo is by Stanford. I think that is in ISMLP

  • Would the Angelus ad Virginem work for a solo soprano?

(Just because I brought this song up, I have to link to my favorite version by a Portuguese male choir: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yN6QueLslM (The Sacred Art shown during the song is breathtaking, timed with the words exquisitely!)
