    ... the Colloquium?

Since 2012 I've been to every in-person Colloquium. I missed the two virtual ones during the event-which-shall-not-be-named.

I can’t make it this year. My wife’s official due date is this Sunday! (I so desperately wanted to go because I’m in Northern Indiana and it’s only about 2h30 for me to get there… but there are bigger fish to fry, alas.)

@ServiamScores we will be praying for you, this is a favourite book of my wife, that may be of use.

My wife is due in August, but if it had been July, I'd probably have held off.

It seems to move to the midwest a lot these past years, so it'll probably be fairly close again in the near future.

I may yet go to The Other One at some point. I decided it would not be this year though...

What IS ‘the other one’ ?

  • Cmanfro,

The Other One is probably the one at which He who shall not be named, and his colleagues, will be presenting.

Looking forward to meting you all next week. My first Colloquium since 2007.

  • I was going to go this year, but the pastor's 10th anniversary of ordination is being celebrated the same week and we are having a special Mass that obviously, I can't miss. Going to the Vocal Intensive instead, which I'm very much looking forward to.

My consolation prize is going to the sacred music institute at the Athanaeum in late July. I went last year, and while it can’t compete with the colloquium due to cmaa’s scale, it’s a lovely, modest substitute, all things considered. It’s very well done.
  • We'll be sure to tell your wife that the "consolation prize" isn't the birth of a beautiful new McServiamScores!

  • For any men who have gone before... What's the dress code like outside of Mass each day? Would nice polo shirts and shorts be too casual?

That would be just fine. I wore khakis and golf polos when I went, and I felt like I fit in.
  • Read the weather forecast, and dress accordingly.

I think this depends on a lot of things.. You'll find a great variety of dress. I would just recommend if your employer were paying for your conference that you ask your employer how they would prefer you dress. If they see you as representing their parish publicly, they might prefer you dress in business attire (dress shirt, slacks, jacket, tie) the whole week.

(also the whole world would be a better place if we all dressed at least business casual the whole time).

I met at least three of you this week and I saw one of you at a distance.

Looking forward to next year already. In fact, I'm already making tentative plans because I don't want to accidentally agree to play for any Mass or event during that week.

Thank you! I sure missed being there (three friends of mine sent me some pictures) but I must say that my daughter is a jewel and no amount of singing in Detroit could have filled me with the joy I have when I hold her. Mercifully, baby (9lb 9.6oz!) and mama are both doing very well. God is good!
