I've been perusing various threads on the forum but so far have come up empty with anything resembling an accessible list good for future reference, so I would like to put it to all of you:

What are some of your favorite arrangements & reharms of particular Lenten and Easter hymns?

For instance, I really enjoy Dan Miller's Royal Procession on All Glory, Laud, and Honour. It is delightful, and good fun if you have an organ that can do it justice. Recording | Score It does actually work to have people sing three verses of the hymn.

I'd like to know other such arrangements that are worth doing. I'm also happy for people to share their own if they are so inclined.

As an aside, I rather love Rinck's Herzliebster Jesu (Ah, Holy Jesus) as a quiet reflection on organ, although this is not a hymn arrangement as such. I play this after Tuesday evening adoration once every Lent. Score attached; it's a gem that deserves to be wider known. Here's a recording I made a while back.

  • On the subject of lovely and easy Lenten organ music, I love these:

    Telemann - Choral Preludes
    O Lamm Gottes unschuldig
    Herzlich thut mich verlangen

    Buxtehude - Chorale Preludes
    Herzlich thut mich verlangen
    Mensch, willst du leben seliglich

    And of course Bach's
O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde groß

"At The Lamb's High Feast" is one of my favorite texts for Easter.

I am also very fond of this (from CC Watershed's online copy of The Pius X Hymnal):

Paul Fey has a very nice (and easy!) little mediation on this tune as well which I use at various holy hours during the Lenten season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hyHFBD_ZJ8
