In anticipation of ALL SOUL'S DAY, I decided to publish my November HYMN OF THE MONTH a few days early. I have chosen a hymn well suited for the month of November which was widely used at Catholic Requiem Masses. This hymn was written by a Catholic woman who was specially honored by Pope Leo XIII for her Catholic literary labors and was clothed in the habit of the Third Order of St. Dominic when she was laid to rest. I have a special connection to this hymn, and I hope that after you read it you will too. Please take a few moments to learn about this beloved Catholic hymn.

  • Lucy Carroll would be proud of you for promoting this hymn.

Thank you for bringing it to the attention of the Forum.

Thanks Chris, I always like Lucy Carroll's "Mouse Squeaks." Did she like this hymn? Did she write about it?
  • Not to knowledge. She wrote a vigorous (rather than a whiny) defense of devotional hymns some years back (in, I think, the Adoremus Bulletin).

Ah, I think you might be referring to her book "The Hymn Writers of Pennsylvania" https://www.amazon.com/Hymn-Writers-Early-Pennsylvania/dp/1606475207

I have read this book and it is a good resource to have on hand. She has a few chapters on Mary E. Walsh, Albert RoSewig, and Eleanor Donnelly which are very informative.
