  • Buxtehude was famous for accompanying himself on violin by playing the organ pedals at the same time.

I used to play the "guiorgan" for novus ordo masses... 12 string guitar mic, vocal mic and then playing the pedals. Of course it was mostly St. Louis Jesuit songs.

  • I’ve attempted baroque recorder and pedals before, but I wasn’t terribly successful lol

That story is told (by Mattheson) of a different Dane, Nicolaus Bruhns.

  • Whoops! You’re right. It’s been almost a decade since my organ rep classes, so the mind has gone a little fuzzy.

  • I've seen and witnessed something very similar before. Once, many years ago, Guy Bovet played a recital at my church. For an encore he played I forget what, but in middle of it signaled the page turner to hand him a nearby small bongo drum and he continued with his left hand beating out a percussion part to the piece.

(Going out for drinks after the recital we were all acting silly and Guy shared that one of his fellow students had very pronounced buck teeth and they all made frequent reference to his 'teeth en chamade'.)

@MJO, perhaps the Bovet piece was "Salamanca" from his Three Hamburger Preludes?
