Ascension Thursday was on Thursday this year, and we sang Gregorian Propers and Ordinaries (Mass II) but no polyphony because of lack of time.
This morning we sang Mass I, but no polyphony because of a dearth of adequate part singers. We had one soprano, no altos and a combination of basses and tenors, such that our lone soprano commented meekly that she was "outnumbered". So, we sang Salutis humanae sator and the antiphon from Vespers this evening, O Rex Gloriae.

The DM at the Latin Mass told me he knew of a tradition of singing Mass VIII for Sunday in the Octave of the Ascension. Anyone else heard of that?
I have never heard of it. In more recent times, Mass XIV is assigned for the days within the octave, if there even are any that are of the season, but I have always understood that Mass I is still used on Sunday, and I'm also sure that people defaulted to Mass VIII even before Vatican II.
Also, I'm a little surprised, in a neutral way, to see the du Mont mass used outside of France.
We had the parish choir sing the various du Mont masses in covidtide (when we couldn’t have congregational singing) because they are short and sweet and could be done with just a single singer if necessary.
Have you not met those of a certain generation who, for their own reasons, nostalgically pine for the days of their childhood when Sister led the entire school in singing Missa de Angelis year round?

Chris, I have, and you understood my point by mentioning those people. I'm just not sure what people would have actually done in, say, France or Belgium, where a revival of chant among the people actually happened, versus England, where the cathedral liturgies of Westminster are known for polyphony, as in both cases, you'd have had daily sung Masses of the octave.
