St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, a Classical school located in northwest Houston, is seeking a part-time class violin/strings teacher to join our music department.

The Strings Teacher works together with and assists the Music Director in implementing our Catholic classical music program and cultivate in students a love for music. The music program at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School is choral-based: every class is a choir that prepares to sing for Mass, appreciate the broad story of music history, and focus on music literacy through the study of the grammar of music. Students are exposed to quality literature and large-scale notable works by composers of Western sacred music history.

Students in 2nd and 3rd grades all participate in the class violin program, taught by the Strings Teacher. The Strings Teacher will be responsible for developing the after-school string ensemble for 4th-8th grade students. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton also offers an after-school music conservatory where students may take individual lessons in voice, piano or string instruments, sing in the choir, or play in the string ensemble. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Music, must have thorough knowledge of string pedagogy, experience teaching elementary-age students, preferably with group experience, and a familiarity with beginning violin and string ensemble repertoire. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the overall approach of our music program with its emphasis on sacred music.

The desired candidate will be fully rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition and fidelity to Church teaching. The applicant should understand how a comprehensive Catholic worldview permeates the classroom environment. In addition to accepting and promoting Church teaching on faith and morals, the ideal candidate is committed to upholding the Tradition of the Church, holding fast to the deposit of faith, and living as a witness to Christ.

Email Ignacio Aguilera, Principal at iaguilera (at) seascs (dot) org with a letter of interest and resume.

**As a personal note, please feel free to contact me with questions. We have been building the string program over the last couple of years as a support for building aural skills and music literacy in the school choral program. Please share with any string players you may know in the area!
