Job Summary St. Mark Catholic Church seeks a qualified musician for the position of Assistant Director of Sacred Music. This is a part-time, 15-20 hour/ week position. The ideal candidate will have practical knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and documents, as well as experience as an organist and conductor. Some evening, weekend, and holiday availability is necessary. The position reports to the Director of Sacred Music (DSM). Additionally, St. Mark has recently begun fundraising to build a pipe organ.
Weekly Duties - 1 to 2 weekend Masses and assistance with Obligatory days and Solemnities - Direct the children’s choir or other choir in consultation with the DSM - Assist in administrative duties i.e. leaflet creation, purchasing of supplies, printing, music arranging, compilation, distribution, etc. - Accompany or sing with Adult Choir or Schola Cantorum as needed - Train and rehearse cantors as necessary
Preferred Qualifications and Abilities - Catholic in good standing with the Church - Working knowledge of Catholic liturgy - Familiarity with documents on music and liturgy - Proficiency on the organ with ability to play hymns and Mass ordinaries at sight - Degree in music, or enrollment in college level music program - Knowledge of Gregorian and English chant, hymnody, service playing, etc.
Additional Duties - Weddings and funerals as assigned by the DSM - Assist with other liturgical groups as needed - Maintain and develop professional skills
