Music and Drama Teacher, Full Time Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory Beginning Fall 2022
Chesterton Academy of Our Lady of Victory, an independent, Catholic, classical high school, seeks a dynamic music and drama teacher with a background in the liberal arts to teach its 9th through 12th grade music and drama classes beginning in fall 2022.
OLV seeks a full time teacher whose love of music and drama is matched by their love of teaching and a desire to help inspire and form students and serve their families in forming life-long disciples of Christ.
Music and Drama at Chesterton Academy are essential courses for all students and are designed to introduce young men and women to the rich musical tradition of the Catholic Church, and the proper place of the theatrical arts in history and society. This position would include teaching choir periodically during the week, as well as performance responsibilities at regular intervals throughout the year.
Music is a required course for all four years of high school at Our Lady of Victory. Drama is a required course from sophomore through senior year.
To ensure that the Music and Drama Departments are pursuing the vision of the school, the Music and Drama Teacher has the primary authority to choose materials for school music and drama events and exercise artistic direction over those events with the approval of the school’s Headmaster.
The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of the connections between fine arts, and the humanities, as well as a passion for inspiring wonder and excellence in students who study music and drama. A bachelor’s degree or higher, and teaching experience or training in classical/liberal arts schools is preferred. A candidate should possess either extensive knowledge or training in Music or Drama, or demonstrate experience in choral and theatrical directing and performance. Exceptional candidates who are transitioning from other careers or recent college graduates will also be considered.
The candidate must be a practicing Catholic and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates are expected to demonstrate teaching ability and superior content knowledge. Candidates must possess excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise. An interest in college guidance advising is a plus.
The position is full-time, beginning August 1, 2022, with a competitive salary based on experience. Depending on the candidate, part time options to teach Music, Choir, or Drama may also be available.
