UA - Asperges on I Class Feast not a Sunday
  • I’m at a Solemn High Mass (UA) for Epiphany tonight (FSSP) and the priest is doing the Asperges - is this allowed, and if so, where is the relevant rubric?
  • Asperges only for Sundays.

  • Casavant,

I would ask your FSSP priest. There are any number of things that could be going on, but I'm not aware of a rubric which requires (or allows) the Asperges on the Epiphany.

Well after you have blessed the Epiphany water (Roman 1890 rite), you do go down the church blessing the faithful... Although it implies the Te Deum is sung at this point!
My Rubrics say after the extra prayers the water is blessed as in the Missal, up to the Asperges...

The Asperges is for the main Mass on Sundays... but does it say you cannot do it at other times?
