Condensed/plagiarized Victoria O magnum mysterium
  • I was looking to edit another motet by the Baroque Florentine Francesco Feroci, and opened his O magum mysterium, to discover that the piece is a flagrant ripoff of Victoria's great setting! The triple-time section in the Alleluia is missing, but the rest is there. There are one or two details that I'd rewrite before using, but overall, it's a successful transcription. And if you'd like to do Victoria but only have TTB or SSA, this is for you

Digging up this old thread because I plan on using the piece this Christmas. Are there any recordings of this floating around anywhere? Or better yet, rehearsal tracks? Seems to be a fairly obscure piece, which makes sense I suppose...

Welcome to my Schola. "I can't find this piece on YouTube". "Well, I've been trying to teach you how to READ."

I haven't done it because I have a mixed group. I just checked online and there's nothing I found. Maybe somebody else has done tracks. The xml file is up so it shouldn't be a lot of trouble to make some.

Amen amen amen. I would be a happy man if I never had to supply recordings.

But I digress. Thanks for the response! I'll probably make my own if nothing turns up.

    Trenton et al.,

I adapted the Victoria for a trio of religious sisters who requested it...feel free to DM me with your email if you'd like to see it, a live recording, and some help files. :)

Actually, I may save myself some time if I just share the score and sound file...

  • Thank you! I wish we could sing this kind of thing now. Please ask Our Lord to send us some of those lovely young college students with good voices (and authentic vocations) to join us!
