Opening for new Director of Sacred Music - Holy Family Church, Hicksville NY
  • Holy Family Parish, Hicksville NY is seeking a Director of Sacred Music. Holy Family has 4,000 families and a parish grade school with 250 students. The new pastor, Fr. Christopher Sullivan, has emphasized the need to evangelize through the true, the good, and the beautiful. There is a profound awareness of the importance of sacred music in evangelization as it lifts the heard and mind up to God, disposes one to hear the true, and inspires one to do the good. This advent the parish will be moving away from Breaking Bread hymnals to the Ignatius Pew Missal.
    The responsibilities are flexible, but are roughly the Director of Sacred music:

    • Serves as the organist at weekend masses (and/or cantor).
    • Recruits, oversees training and supervises musicians for all liturgies
    • Recruits, oversees training and supervises Cantor(s) and Choir(s) for all liturgies
    • Schedules and regularly directs rehearsals with musicians, cantors and choirs
    • Responsible for the purchase, maintenance and distribution of liturgical music resources
    • Offers input for the most appropriate worship aid for the congregation of the Parish
    • Maintain and secure reprint licensing for reprint of musical materials in parish
    • Assist with the preparation of the Program’s budget with Business Manager
    • Coordinates music for Weddings and Funerals
    • Serves as the organist/instrumentalist for Weddings and Funerals in Parish
    • Serves as a music resource person and works with Staff in preparing for special liturgies for the sacramental programs
    • Implements the liturgical policies and guidelines of the Universal Church, the Diocese and/or Pastor
    • Perform other duties as assigned or implied by position

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Faithful Roman Catholic living in harmony with the teachings of the Church
    • Able to play organ, sing if required
    • Basic knowledge of sacred music and chant.
    • Basic knowledge of sound and audio technology or willing to coordinate with vendors

    Educational Requirements:
    • Minimally a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Music
    • Have training in (and preferred- credentials) in Liturgical Music
