From CatholicJobs.com and the "Jobs Hotline" page of NPM's website:

Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Long Island, New York, in the town of Commack, a parish of 5,000+ families, is seeking a full time Director of Music to implement and develop a sacred music program with the heart and mind of the Church, and to work directly with the pastor in an advisory capacity to ensure the reverent celebration of the Holy Mass.

The candidate must be skilled in organ performance, possess a knowledge of Gregorian and simpler forms of English chant, be capable of conducting, training, and catechizing cantors and choirs, and must live the Catholic Faith with interpersonal, organizational, and administrative grace. The ideal candidate would also be a competent vocalist.

The starting base salary is $55,000 plus full benefits, offering also 100+ funerals and 25+ weddings each year, enabling the Director potentially to make an additional $20-25,000. The 4 weekend Masses [Sat 5PM | Sun 8, 10, and 12PM], 4 annual First Holy Communion Masses and Confirmations on Saturdays, as well as all Solemnities and their Vigils, require the presence of the Director of Music. Seasonal Diocesan Masses and Holy Hours for youth and young adults will also require the expertise of the new Music Director, as the offices of the Diocesan Director of Vocations are located on the parish grounds - the Vocation Director living in residence and the pastor being the Coordinator of Recruitment.

Upon the arrival of the pastor 2 years ago, the preexisting music program switched at his request from the Gather hymnal to the Ignatius Pew Missal, the continuation of which would be under the discretion of the new Director and the pastor with his current hopes of moving the parish into the Saint Michael Hymnal. The church has great acoustics, a $50,000 Monte Brothers microphone system, and a Rodgers, Trillium Series, 3-Manual organ installed in 2003.

Paid vocal and instrumental accompaniment may be auditioned and hired by the new Director. The preexisting program is composed of cantors and choristers trained in the bel canto vocal style. However, the successful candidate will have the pastor's strong encouragement and full support in his or her auditioning, training, and hiring vocalists who give pride of place to, and have affection for, chant and polyphony.

Christ the King is a growing parish where younger families are finding a place to live the Catholic Faith with devotion, largely because of its location. The parish is situated at the conjunction of the region's most vital main roads, making it easily accessible to neighboring towns, one hour from New York City, and just a few minutes from the north shore and its State parks. The town consists of sprawling, walkable neighborhoods, attractive apartment buildings, and the most desirable stores and restaurants.

Serious candidates will, we hope, visit our website at www.ctkrcc.org, being sure also to look into the parish by visiting www.petersboat.net to get a sense of the pastor, the priests in residence, the sound of the organ, and the spirit of the parish. Thank you.
