St. James Cathedral, Seattle, has openings for two tenor singers to join the Cathedral Cantorei, the professional ensemble that supports the volunteer Cathedral Choir during regular Thursday rehearsals (7:30-9:30 pm) and Sunday morning Masses (9:00 am call for 10:00 am Mass) from September through May, with opportunities to sing throughout the summer. Cantorei also sings for extra liturgies, including Advent Readings and Carols, and an annual New Year's Eve concert. Availability during Christmas and Easter weeks is essential.
The successful applicant will have a flexible voice that is comfortable singing a wide range of choral repertoire (including Renaissance polyphony that requires minimal vibrato), the ability to blend within an ensemble, excellent sightreading skills, and a personable and professional attitude suitable to acting as a choral leader to volunteers. Ideally, the applicant will have experience as a cantor in the Catholic Church, and be amenable to taking on extra calls as a cantor for weddings, funerals, Vespers, and other liturgies, but this is not a requirement.
Competitive pay; inquire for details. Start date is flexible, though an immediate hire is ideal.
