This summer, the Sacred Music Institute of America will continue to offer a wide range of continuing education opportunities for church musicians and clergy: online courses including “History of Sacred Music,” “Gregorian Chant for Beginners,” and “Hymnology,” individualized instruction in voice and organ, and an in-person summer intensive course, “Choral Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy.” In addition to the Institute's founder Dr. Jason Keefer (Pontifical College Josephinum), faculty include Dr. William Mahrt (Stanford University), Emily Lapisardi (Catholic Chapel, United States Military Academy) and Columbus, Ohio area musicians Dr. Jason Hiester and Dr. Rebecca Abbott.

The online courses include ten one-hour lectures which students will complete during a thirteen week “Summer Flex Term.” The courses also offer discussion and practice sessions held via Zoom. This summer, the Institute is offering a special discounted rate of $495 per course or $295 to audit each course. Students may register online at www.sacredmusicinstitute.org or by calling (614) 395-7783.

Full participation in these online courses may be applied towards the Sacred Music Institute of America’s certifications in organ, choral/vocal leadership, and cantoring. These courses of study also include private lessons, personalized mentoring, and additional group courses and seminars in theory, music history, repertoire selection, improvisation, service playing, choral and vocal pedagogy, church music documents and philosophy, and chant. Prior experience and training is required for the Summer Conducting Intensive; please contact the Institute for more details.
