St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, a Classical school located in northwest Houston, is seeking a full-time music teacher to join our music department for the coming school year.
The Music Teacher works together with and assists the Music Director in implementing a Catholic classical music program to cultivate in students a love for music. The music program at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School is choral-based: every class is a choir that prepares to sing for Mass, appreciate the broad story of music history, and focus on music literacy through the study of the grammar of music. Students are exposed to quality literature and large-scale notable works by composers of Western sacred music history. The Music Teacher shares teaching responsibility with the Music Director for PreK through 8th grade, and assists weekly with Mass either by conducting the various class choirs or serving as organist for weekly Mass (based on applicant’s particular area of emphasis). Students in 2nd and 3rd grades also participate in the class violin program, which is taught either by the Music Teacher, depending on their background, or the Music Director. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton also offers an after-school music conservatory where students may take individual lessons in voice, piano or string instruments, sing in the choir, or play in the string ensemble. Applicants must be familiar with the tradition of Catholic sacred music from Gregorian chant through polyphony and hymnody, in addition to possessing training in vocal pedagogy and keyboard skills. The desired candidate will be fully rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition and fidelity to Church teaching. The applicant should understand how a comprehensive Catholic worldview permeates the classroom environment. In addition to accepting and promoting Church teaching on faith and morals, the ideal candidate is committed to upholding the Tradition of the Church, holding fast to the deposit of faith, and living as a witness to Christ.
