My oldest daughter makes her First Holy Communion this morning. I composed this short chorale prelude on "Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All" for her on Holy Thursday, and will use it at the Mass today.

Performance recording (don't know why the selfie cam puts everything in "mirror")

Free for your liturgical performance use, as well.

  • Beautiful piece! What registrations were you using for that recording?

  • I love this! (Already told you that directly, but I want a copy of this to play at our First Holy Communion Mass in a few weeks...)

  • What a lovely piece. Sounds almost Baroque. I second Nathan's question: what registrations did you use?

This is encouraging. Also, I enjoyed & was pleasantly educated by your AGO video which popped up immediately afterwards, the Merkel I have made a mental note for next time I need a bridal processional.

  • Is the g in measure 29, in the right hand meant to be a g#?

Thank you all so much for the appreciation and kind words! Taking the ones requiring fuller responses in order:

Nathan and Chris -- My organ is fully enclosed. Gt 8' Melodia and Rohrflote 4'. Swell 8' English Horn and Geigen Principal coupled 4' to the choir. Pedal I think I used the 16' Open Wood with 8' Bass Flute. Though in one take I used the meaty 16' Bourdon. Hard to tell on this recording.

Jacob -- Attached to this and emailed.

Jonathan -- Thanks for the kind words about the AGO video. I love Merkel. Met him in an Organ Lit class as a footnote and had to find more.

Chris -- I go back and forth on that g / g# question. It has been both ways on the score. Not entirely satisfied with either. Play what makes you happy.

  • With the e-sharp in the pedal, I think the G# makes more sense, but I wonder if the other solution (e-natural and g natural, with c#) isn't revelatory in a different way.

Thank you so much for composing this and making it available to us. With your permission I'll use it at our upcoming First Holy Communion.

    My organ is fully enclosed.

I've played a Reuter that's designed this way apart from the flamed copper façade and I have to say that I quite enjoyed that organ—it's very flexible to have full enclosure. I currently play on a toaster that's designed with gt/ped optionally enclosed and I leverage this to full effect too.

I sent this to Sean a while back, but I'll share it here too. I did an alternate engraving of this work (I like to engrave music for fun #nerdalert) so here's my edition. I also added little marking to indicate an optional repeat with Sean's blessing.

Yes, thank you, NihilNominis. But something is bothering me: is the video a mirror image, that is, what appears to be your left hand is actually your right?

Yes, Father! I have no idea why my front-facing camera does that!
