Michael Praetorius Cheuzburgensis (MPC) -
  • There are quite a few devotees of Praetorius on out Forum.

Of interest to them may be a book reviewed in the current issue of 'The American Organist'. Entitled Heaven is my Fatherland, Praetorius's own motto, it is a translation of Michael Praetorius Hoffkapellmeister und Komponist zwischen Renaissance und Barock, a 2008 book by Siegfied Volgelsanger, the translator is Nathaniel J. Biebert. The publisher is Resource Publications, Eugene, Oregon.

MPC were the initials used by Praetorius himself - the C standing for Creuzburg, the town from which he hailed.

Those who subscribe to 'The American Organist' will be well informed by the lengthy review. This is a book that should be indispensable to students of early music - organ music and Praetorius in particular.
