  • Sad news. Is there a biography of him available, for those who didn't know him?
  • Requiescat in pace. Fr. Goodwin was a singularly holy priest, with a wild sense of humor in the classroom. I was honored to study 2 years of Latin and a course on the 1962 Missale Romanum under his firm, amusing, and Godly tutelage. (Not to mention a couple reprimands for playing organ literature that wasn't quite up to his liturgical standards ;-)

Little bio from the FSSP Auckland Facebook page:

In your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul of Fr Calvin Goodwin FSSP (centre-right of photo), the long-time Latin teacher at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in the US. Fr Goodwin was a tremendous priest, who was most passionate about God's love for us, especially through the gift of the Roman liturgy. Fr Goodwin never lost an opportunity to teach about the traditional liturgy and helped foster a passionate zeal for its promotion and preservation amongst many aspiring FSSP priests.

He possessed a very sharp intellect, profound homeletic skills, and was a most astute spiritual director, who was himself a follower of the spiritual life of St Therese of Lisieux. He was a lover of Opera music and fine chocolate, who had a most sharp and clever wit (always suspicious of cats). After having had a stroke in 2016 which confined him to a series of operations and hospital care, he passed to the Lord on the 22nd of January 2021. He spent the last years of his life offering up his failing physical condition in reparation for sins in the manner of his heroine, St Therese.

Requiem aeternam dona ei Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei, requiescat in pace. Amen.
