Collection of descants
  • In the early 1990s, I decided to write a collection of descants for hymns. I have no use for these any more, but would be happy to send them to a new home.

Here's a list of the tunes to which the descants exist in this collection. (I used the Hymnal 1982)

I'd be interested in receiving this collection. Please PM me to arrange the details - I'm happy to pay for shipping.
  • Very impressive, Chris!
I have done quite a number of descants,
including one on the refrain and each of the tunes to Salve festa dies.

Chris, I'm also interested. Have you considered scanning and sharing them more widely?

    Same; interested.
  • Serviam,

I hadn't given it any thought, but since you've proposed the idea, I will consider it.

    JMoellman,

I may have some time today (if my printer/scanner works properly) to see if I can scan copies.

    Chonak,

Should I post the file here, or should I send it only to interested people?

How big is the file? (megabytes)
  • Chonak,

Because I've had scanner "issues", I've scanned separate pages -- there are 17 JPEG files in all, if I've counted correctly.

No file is bigger than 800K, and the entire set is 11,023K.

Excellent timing! I was just thinking about searching for new descants last week. I'm definitely interested as well.

Can you send me the JPEGs, Chris? I can make a PDF file out of them.

Putting the scans in Dropbox "Descants" folder and sharing the link to the folder might be the easiest way to distribute the collection.

Also, if you're interested, I could help with converting the scans to PDF files and perhaps posting them at CPDL.

As a descant writer myself, I'm interested in obtaining this collection.

    Thanked by 1Andrew_Malton
  • Charles,

I've sent the files to Bill Chonak, since I saw his post before yours, but I would be very flattered indeed if you would be wiling to post these to CPDL. Thank you.

I've tossed the scores together into a PDF file, added a couple of indexes, and here it is.
Please let me know if it needs any corrections.
