When I was in St. Mary's Choir some years ago we would sing a hymn "All Praise to St. Patrick" the arrangement was from the 1918 St. Basil's hymnal and set to an Irish Melody. I was doing some research today and came upon a melody composed by or at least arranged by Ludwig van Beethoven, "The Pulse of an Irishman". I found the music on the IMSLP. I then turned to YouTube and found some videos and the two melodies are very similar. Can some of you more learned musicians take a look at the music and confirm this?

  • Beethoven just set the old Irish melody for the arrangement.
