Organist and Choir Director position open immediately at St. Joseph Church, 8 Robinson Ave., Danbury, CT 06810. Full-time or part-time is to be determined. Bachelor’s degree in music a pre-requisite and Master’s degree preferred, with professional training in organ and experience in choral conducting. Familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgical music is essential as well as leadership skills to develop a Church Music Program, including a volunteer choir. Candidate should demonstrate knowledge of choral repertory and effectiveness as a rehearsal director; be responsible for selecting, preparing, and performing music at weekend Masses to encourage congregational participation; will direct the music for the Youth Mass on Sunday evenings; will provide leadership in planning and executing School Masses, special concerts, particularly at Christmas and Easter and special occasions such as weddings and funerals. Candidate should possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to oversee scheduling, budgets, ordering music, and supervising the choral library as well as overseeing the maintenance of Church instruments.
