Yesterday, my wife and I were honored to attend the Bar Mitzvah of a thirteen years old named Gregory. Gregory's name was derived from a surname in his maternal grandmother's lineage. These grandparents have become dear friends and neighbors over the years. At the announcements following the service, the rabbi stated that he had never heard Gregorian chant in a synagogue. This drew quite hearty laughter from the three hundred persons there.
