Position of Director of Music and Organist

The Church of Saint Columbanus in Cortlandt Manor, In a rural area of Northern Westchester County, NY. near the Hudson River. The position includes the following principal duties and responsibilities:

I. Liturgies
Plan, prepare, play, sing and direct music for weekend, Holy Day, occasional Masses and services

A. Weekend Masses Saturday
6:00 PM Mass Sunday
8 AM Mass
9:45 AM Traditional Latin Mass (Music Monthly) 11:45 AM Choir Mass

B. Holy Days/Special Occasions
These include:
6:00 PM Vigil Mass on Holy Days of Obligation
12 PM Mass on Holy Days of Obligation
7 PM Holy Day Mass
Holy Week liturgies, Confirmation, Thanksgiving Day, Ash Wednesday, Advent Lessons and Carols
11⁄2 days teaching at St. Columbanus Catholic Elementary School available (school salary paid by School Region) This is an optional position if interested.

C. Weddings, Funerals (which are compensated separately)

II. Personnel

A. Report to the Pastor and work in consultation with him, the other priests, and other staff.
B. Engage substitute organists as necessary.
C. Assist clergy as requested with learning their sung parts of the liturgy.

III. Fabric
A. Maintain the church’s musical instrument.
B. Organize the choral library.

IV. Resources
A. Organ - Allen (2 Manuals)

V. Requirements
1. Ability to play the organ service music, hymns, and accompaniments.
2. Practical knowledge of the music of the Catholic Church, particularly Gregorian chant and polyphony, and the ability to conduct and sing them.
3. Knowledge of and experience with Catholic liturgy; acquaintance with the Extraordinary Form.
4. Commitment to the spiritual mission of the parish.
5. Interpersonal, communicational, and organizational skills are essential.

VI. Compensation
1. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
2. Three weeks paid vacation.
3. Weddings, and Funerals are compensated separately ( 45 funerals, 12 Weddings)
